Popular Frame Materials for Modern Windows
May 15, 2017You made the decision to get replacement windows. You sat down with one of our experts and chose your frame material, sizes, and shapes. So now what? Well, now you wait for your products to come in. Once they arrive we will send a professional crew to your home for installation. To speed the process along, there are a few things you can do to get your home ready for installation.
- Remove Window Covers
The first thing you want to do is take down your blinds, curtains, sashes, etc. If you plan to keep the same size windows you can simply remove then and store them out of the way until your new windows are in place. You will also want to remove any curtain rods and hardware, and keep them with your window coverings. If you have any wall hangings or picture frames you should remove those as well. This gives the installation team easy access to your windows, and less for them to do upon arrival.
- Make Room for Installation
Next up, you want to clear away as much furniture as possible, especially the pieces near your windows. Focus on both the inside and the outside, giving them plenty of space. Window units themselves are large and cumbersome, and the installation team will need room to maneuver the old windows out and the new windows in.
- Create a Clear Path
For replacement windows, the installers will walk in and out of your home several times. Having a clear walkway can make a huge difference in installation times. So if you can make their job a little easier by cleaning up toys, moving rugs, and eliminating obstacles it could really speed things up. On top of this, you will want to make sure your pets and children are not underfoot. That way you don’t have to worry about any hazards or accidents for your loved ones.
- Cover Your Furniture
Window removal and replacement does require some demolition. This can get messy, and the installation team will do all they can to keep your home pristine throughout the process. They will likely put down their own drop cloths at installation sites to keep the mess contained. You can even call to see what the team plans to cover. It doesn’t hurt to take extra precautions with your furniture. If you have the resources, cover your couches and sofas with sheets or drop cloths. This will ensure their protection.
- Give Installers Access
This might seem odd to include, but on occasion our teams show up to a home and cannot get in. Make sure you have the proper time off to be there during the installation process. That, or give a friend or neighbor house keys and permission to let the installers in until you can get there. You also want to deactivate your alarm system if you have one, and reactivate it once the process is complete.
